For our Form and Fabric project I decided to create my swatches based on the theme of "restricted". I looked at old abandoned prisons as source imagery. We worked directly on the stand to create swatches and to resolve design ideas.. I really enjoyed this approach to design.

Finished Presentation

The garment I chose to make was a Collared jacket.

For  our market research project we had to identify 6 trends and research them. I gathered information by researching online and in magazines I also went out into shops and gathered information that way.
The trends I used were: For womens-wear, Military, Embellished, Baroque and Patterned. For mens-wear I chose Military and for childrens-wear I chose Purple.

Mood Boards.

For our mixing and matching project I chose to use coral reef and underwater plant like as my source imagery. I used shapes i pulled from these images to create my designs and final line-up.

Final Presentation boards

After continuing with designing on the stand and in my sketchbook I decided on my final design. I wanted to keep with the theme of my sculpture.. I used wire as a central part of the design. I wove it through the fabric to give it shape and create texture and pattern. I used shapes I had pulled from my mark making to create the ruffels on the side of the skirt

I am really happy with the way the garment turned out. I think it fits in well with the theme of my project. I enjoyed the process of designing and especially creating the skirt. :)

This week we had to use the sculpture we had created and the mood board to design a piece. I took photographs of the sculpture and used drawing and representations of it to pull shapes from. We then have to use those shapes to design from.

I picked three shapes i thought would work well and cut them out of paper and fabric and began to manipulate them on the stand. Im goin to use this stand work and other shapes to design from to create the final design.

For the second week of this project we had to choose our favorite mood board and create a sculpture based on our research. I choose to work with silence as this was the board I enjoyed working on the most. As i was researching i found my self drawn to the sinister side of silence. That there is something really unnatural about it. I wanted to convey the idea of forced silence, of covering up the noise. For the swatch for this mood board i crumpled up tin foil and hi-lighted the texture created with a black marker. I used this to represent the nose or chaos, I then covered this with a light tracing paper so that you could still see the tin foil underneath. I wanted to develop this idea of covering up a very intricate and random pattern for my sculpture. I had worked a lot with wire for my first semester project so decided to twist and bend wire into a sphere and then use a very light chiffon to cover it. This turned out to be a very time consuming and delicate process but I was really happy with the finished sculpture.
