After working with card. I decided that i need to use a stronger material to help recreate the movement of the cogs. I am working with several different materials. the first is wire.

While the wire cogs look great there still not strong enough to use in a sculptural piece. They are a successful exercise in observation and work brillinatly as a "drawing" of the cogs.

These cogs are made from a light flexible plastic (a copy cover) and I used wire to connect them together. I think the plastic is a really effective material to work with. It allows you to make the teeth of the cog really precise and fit together well. I think if i replace the wire with plastic this would work well.
I have been working on observing and recreating parts of the clock that I find interesting and that work well together. I've been lookin at how the different cogs interlink with each other and how the move together.

 I want to recreate the way these parts link together. I've start working with paper and card folding it into shapes and gettin them to fit together like the cogs.

  After creating several cogs using this card I've decided it is not the most suitable material to work with as it is not strong enough to recreate the movement of the cogs.

Movement = Clocks

Ive decided  to work with clocks and cogs for my project on movement. To start I decided to find some old clocks and take out the insides with all the moving parts. These turned out to be amazing objects there really intricate and best of all they move :)

After working with them for a while I have decided to start trying to recreate the parts of the clock using different materials. I really like using wire, its great to work with and it gives a great effect.

...Also i really like the sound they make when they are moving, it reminds me of old film projectors.. I'm goin to look into the similarities between both objects..

I'm going to keep working on creating different parts of the clock and trying to set them up in such a way that the move and are visually interesting.
